The Mary Whitehouses

Fire Breathing Dwarves in Central London!

Fire breathing dwarves, snake charming belly dancers and spanking! The freaks of London came out to play last night at the spectacular Flash Monkey, held at central London's Cafe de Paris. As we wandered through the club we came across three little old ladies, who seemed quite flustered and shocked by all the breasts and near-nudity on show. This was more a cabaret night than burlesque: superb live music accompanied the singers who performed either alone or just behind the burlesque acts. The tiny stage lent a slightly comic appeal, especially as "Smoking Antonio" stripped dangerously close to the fantastic crooner Marcus Malone. Marcus carried on stoically as Antonio popped off his H&M socks, one by one. From exotic to gothic, the burlesque acts all had a wonderfully strong sense of style, but I occasionally felt a touch cheated. It was as if some acts were set up fantastically but not finished. A tangible exciting atmosphere was built up... and then the performer walks off. Where's the stripping I ask? Or am I just being perverse? It was a truly professional evening though, full of interesting characters both on and off stage. I only wish I could have stayed for the Aerial Distortion-Contortion of Delia Du Soul, but it being a school night I had to dash to grab the last tube home. I wonder how long those Flash Money fanatics partied on for. "

These ladies are at their happiest when they have something to disapprove of.
